Northern Link Culture Vultures is a network of single people who enjoy the cinema, theatre, concerts, art galleries and the like.  Typically we visit Manchester theatres (Royal Exchange theatre, Library theatre, Lowry theatre), Manchester cinema (Cornerhouse cinema), Liverpool theatres (Liverpool Everyman theatre, Liverpool Playhouse), Liverpool cinema (FACT Liverpool), Bolton theatre (Bolton Octagon), Preston theatre (Charter theatre, Preston Playhouse), Preston concerts (Preston Guildhall), Blackpool theatre (Grand Theatre), Lancaster theatre (Dukes Theatre) and other venues in the region.

New Arrangement for Culture Vultures Programme

Because people have found it difficult to book well in advance and also because the four-monthly publication of the Northern Link brochure means we often miss good events which have not been announced at the time we go to press, from July onwards we are having two fixed events each month:

  • a meal at the beginning of the month at which to plan and book extra events.  Please bring along your suggestions

  • a concert or play which will be listed in the Northern Link brochure.

All other events, such as the films at the Cornerhouse, Manchester, will be arranged at the monthly meal and then posted on this website.  If you give us your e-mail address, you will automatically get a message telling you of new events as they are added to the programme. (see the Mailing List button on the left)

meet for a meal or drink Since Northern Link Culture Vultures is a social activity for singles as much as a cultural network, we always meet beforehand for a meal (usually something quick and inexpensive like an Italian) and often go for a drink afterwards.

We operate on a not-for-profit basis.  To attend our events regularly, you must first be a member of Northern Link, the singles social network in the North West.  But you can try us out and attend two events before you commit to joining.

You can now book and pay online by clicking the "Add to Cart" button next to an event on the What's On page.  Please use this, as it's a lot less effort for the organisers than taking phone calls.

Please remember to book early - especially for Saturday events.  We cannot buy tickets after the cut-off date or without your payment.

One purpose of this website is to allow us to add extra events and provide additional information - something we can't do in the printed Northern Link programme because of problems with space and also the fact that we have to set out the Link Culture Vultures programme about five months ahead.  So please check back occasionally to see what we added.

FAQ

  • Can I come to a Link Culture Vultures play, film, concert or other event even if I'm not a member of the Northern Link singles network?  Yes.  You are entitled to come to two events as a taster before you join, but we will need full contact details from you.

  • Why do you have a cut-off date for bookings?  Very simply we need to be able to buy tickets in a block, if we can.  After all, these are intended as social events for singles and they don't work very well if our group is sprinkled all round the theatre, cinema or concert hall in twos and threes.

  • Why don't you have many events on a Saturday?  We've tried this, as we appreciate that this is an easier day for most people, but if a play or concert is going to sell out on any day of the week, it's going to be Saturday.  We tried setting early cut-off dates to get round this, but hardly anybody booked in time.

  • Can I buy my own ticket?  Yes, it's a free country, but what's the point?  You won't be sitting with the group.  We often get group discounts for plays or concerts, which we pass on to everyone who books with us.  We have had instances where our group was just too small to qualify for a discount because some people had booked direct, so that day everyone lost out.

  • We are a group of friends, can we book as a group?  Yes, of course, but expect to be mixed with other members during the meal and in the theatre or concert hall during the performance.  The whole point of a singles group is to socialise with other people.

  • I can't get there in time for the meal - is that a problem?  If you miss the meal, you miss half the event, but we appreciate that people may have to travel some distance.  If we are expecting you for the meal but you are running late, please call the organiser.  We may have had to move on and we can't hold up the rest of the group indefinitely.

  • I've booked but I can't come - do I get my money back?  Sorry, no.  Very few theatres, cinemas or concert halls offer refunds.  If we've already booked a ticket for you we will see if we can find someone else to take it, but otherwise that's down to you.  Similarly if we have booked your ticket for the play, concert or film but you have not yet paid us, you still need to pay.  This is a non-profit group run by unpaid volunteers, so we cannot afford to make a loss.

  • I'd like to go to a particular play, film or concert, but it's not on the programme - can you add it?  Yes, although it's probably too late to put it in the Northern Link brochure, we can add extra events to this website.  Even better if you would like to be the organiser for that event yourself.
